Sports Journalism Officially Dead

This is a screen shot of Sports Illustrated’s website today.  I circled the headline in question, and well, “Tiger Sad”?  I smell a Pulitzer!

I’m no fan of Helen Thomas…

…. or of most journalists for that matter, but she laid an ass-whoopin’ on White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs at this press conference about the tightly controlled nature of the President’s town hall meetings.  Chip Reid (CBS News) started it off, and let Helen smack down Gibbsy for the closer.  Good times.

Pssst…Is anyone going to address North Korea?

OK, OK. SHOCK: The President picks an ivy-league-educated minority female for his Supreme Court nominee, and in another shocker, GM is going to file for bankruptcy. Who cares? It’s like reporting George Michael has been arrested for public nudity and lewd conduct at a nightclub rest room, or that Keifer Sutherland decked a photographer. Is anyone going to mention North Korea and it’s serious actions? Probably not. Here are a few of the headlines from around the web at 10:15 AM (EST):

CNN:

Teen left home with dog, but only dog returned  (the big story with photo)
  • CNNMoney: GM moves closer to bankruptcy
  • GOP’s fine line in opposing Sotomayor 33 min
  • Navarrette: Sotomayor made it on her own 31 min
  • Commentary: Sotomayor not a merit pick 55 min
  • Ticker: Sotomayor ‘racist,’ Limbaugh says
  • CNNMoney: Economists predict recession’s end
  • Analysis: Is N. Korea at ‘tipping point’?  (OK, at least they mention NK here)****
  • MCNBC:

BREAKING NEWS: Existing-home sales rise 2.9 percent in April; prices down 15.4 percent

    In the World News Section:

Car bomber, gunmen attack Pakistan city
South Asia cyclone death toll tops 168
    N. Korea warns of ‘merciless punishment’  (here it it!)

    FOX News:

Breaking News: USS Vandenberg Sunk to Make Reef Off Florida Coast: Watch Live
    • Government Motors: The U.S. Government could take a 70% ownership stake…

I think FOX wins this one, because it captured to obvious nature of the GM story, with plenty of attention to North Korea, while clearly making the ‘Giant Blob’ beneath Nevada a real story (it’s for the President’s safety).
